PRIESTLY ORDINATION OF DN. LARRY P. VARGHESE
The priestly ordination of Dn. Larry Philip Varghese was held at the Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston, on Sunday 12th August, 2012 before a large gathering of devotees, friends and well wishers. The solemn service started with a ceremonial procession with the parish Choir wearing gowns, Executive Committee members, Clergy, Candidate and
the Archdeacon (senior Vicar) holding the Episcopal staff, respectively. Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius, Diocesan Bishop of North America & Europe, officiated the Holy Communion and Ordination services. Rev. Roy Abraham Thomas, Youth Chaplain of Houston, delivered the sermon. Revds. Zacharia John, A.T Thomas, Roy Abraham Thomas, and V.M Mathew assisted in the service.
The esteemed presence of an ecumenical Clergy comprising of the Orthodox Syrian, Jacobite Syrian, Mar Thoma
Syrian, CSI, St. Thomas Evangelical and United Christian Church of India denominations added much prominence to the event. The service ended with dinner provided by the family of the newly ordained priest. Heartfelt chanting of liturgical prayers, leadership of the Clergy, singing of the Choir, responses of the devoted congregation, arrangements by the various sub Committees and ushers all contributed much flavor to the solemnity of
the occasion.
The newly ordained priest officiated his first Holy Communion service on Sunday August 19th at the Trinity Church, Houston, his mother parish. He has been appointed as the Asst. Vicar of the Ebenezer Mar Thoma Church, Othara.
Rev. Larry, son of Mr. K. K Varghese and Mrs. Mariamma, hails from the Kottoorazhikathu family, Kundara. He is the first Mar Thoma priest ordained from and at the Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston, and the ninth one from the second generation of Marthomites born and brought up in U.S.A. His wife Mrs. Roshin is the daughter of Rev.
Dr. K.A Abraham, Vicar of the Christos Mar Thoma Church, Ranny (formerly Diocesan Secretary of North America & Europe). Libu and Dr. Lesly are his siblings.
