The Diocese of Mumbai is having a cluster of mission fields in Vidharbha Region, near Nagpur. The mission work is managed by the Rev K. C. Chacko with the help of the Vicar of Nagpur Mar Thoma Church, Rev Roy P. Thomas. There are evangelists stationed at distant places and the work is coordinated by Mr. Pradeep who stays now in Gadchiroli with his wife. The diocese has a hostel in a rented place in Gadchiroli with three rooms for boys and three for girls. There are 14 boys and 12 girls, totaling 26 children who do their schooling from there. The St John’s Parish, Hounslow, UK is now helping the hostel and meeting the expenses of the children.
Evangelist Hiraman Gangorode with his wife Pradeep Shini is staying with the children and looking after them. The diocesan Bishop, Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius visited Gadchiroli along with a group, after his visit to the Mar Thoma Parish at Nagpur. The evangelist organized a welcome programme to the visiting team and Mar Theodosius spoke to the people assembled there from the nearby places.
There was a variety entertainment programme of the children and the youth there which lasted for an hour. They were also wearing traditional dress. The cultural programmes were all interesting and entertaining.
The meeting concluded with prayer and benediction and the members received blessings of Kaimuthu from the Bishop Mar Theodosius. The evangelist Hiramon and family organized dinner for the visiting team.
The diocese through the Mission Board is trying to buy a plot of land in Gadchiroli at Katli. The visiting group stayed the night at the residence of Mr. Pradeep and visited the plot of land on the following day. The paper work is going on and the present agricultural land is to be converted to a non-agricultural property in order to construct the buildings. The land is near a large pond which has plenty of water. The visiting team assessed the situation.
The presence of the Diocesan Treasurer, Mr. Achenkunju P. K., was helpful to evaluate the position. Adequate funds are to be raised from the well-wishers .The diocese looks forward for the guidance of God in purchasing the property and constructing the required buildings there.
