A clergy – family meeting of Europe region was held at Buckfast Abbey, Devon under the leadership of our Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa from August 22 to 23, 2011. Rev. Eapen Abrahm led devotion based on 1 Chronicle 29:1-9 on the opening day. Achen initiated the discussion on the mentoring role of the Priests by comparing David’s mentoring role in the life of Solomon. Rev. Abraham Mathew presented a paper on the subject ‘Relevant ministry in UK and Europe’. On Tuesday meeting started with songs and devotion. Devotion was led by Rev. P K Jameson on Ex 10: 7-11. Achen emphasized the importance of liturgy and worship in the life and ministry of the clergy.
There were separate sessions for children and Kochammas. A talent evening was also organized. Mar Theodosius addressed the clergy and spoke about making the ministry more relevant and meaningful in the context of Europe. Discussion followed. The clergy meeting was a good time to share, support, pray, and encourages each other so that the Clergy will be equipped, revitalised and envisioned as the servants of the God’s Kingdom. The meeting suggested having the Conference of 2012 in Switzerland in consultation with Rev. Joseph Daniel.
The Buckfast Abbey is a very old Monastery. It was plundered at the time of King Henry and the place was ruined. At a later stage the Abbots grouped together and committed themselves to re-build the whole place. The present place of worship is a monument of their commitment and hard work as it took about 35 years of continuous work to re-build the Cathedral. It remains as a challenge to all the ordained ministers and a symbol of God given possibility of humankind when they work together with God.
