Detroit MTC

The Detroit Mar Thoma Church was blessed and honored by the annual visit of the Diocesan Bishop; Rt.Rev.Dr.Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa on 19th August 2012.Thirumeni came here on 18th Saturday evening from Toronto. This was his fourth official visit to the parish after assuming the charge as the Diocesan Bishop of North-America and Europe Diocese in 2009.

On August 19th Sunday at 9.30 am Thirumeni lead the celebration of the Holy Communion in English, during which fourteen girls were dedicated and had their first communion. Besides the Vicar the Rev P.Chacko and the Rev Philip Varghese assisted the service. Thirumeni gave an inspiring and thought provoking sermon based on Mtt.5:13, 14. After the service and announcements Thirumeni distributed the plaques and certificates to those Diocesan Sunday school award winning kids and trophies to those Yuvajanasakhyam members who won prizes in various competitions. Also Thirumeni gave away the certificates and mementos to those first communicant members. The service ended by 1 p.m with Thirumeni’s Kaimuthu. About 500 people attended the service and had a luncheon fellowship in the parish hall hosted by the first communicant’s families.

After lunch at 2 p.m, there was a special meeting for the parishners to meet the bishop and share their concerns. Vicar welcomed the bishop and Thirumeni addressed the gathering and shared the diocesan and parish matters and opened the forum for further discussion. The parishners shared their concerns and the meeting ended by 3.30pm with prayer and benediction by Thirumeni. The parish expresses our thanks for the Episcopal visit.
