Episcopal Visit to Salem MTC, Surat

The Episcopal visit to Salem Mar Thoma Church, Surat was for two days. Mar Theodosius arrived Surat from Bharuch on Saturday evening by road and visited the Vicar and the family. Mar Theodosius celebrated Holy Qurbana on Sunday morning, August 28, 2016. There were 8 first communicants who were blessed at the worship service that started at 8.30 am.

During the sermon time, Mar Theodosius emphasized the importance of examining the life of the worshipping community and strengthening the community living.

The service was well attended and there were a good number of people who took part in the Holy Qurbana. After the service, there was the Parish Day celebration in which Rev K. P. Thomas, the Vicar of the parish presided. Rev Saji Thomas and family from the Diocesan School, St. Thomas English Medium School nearby attended the service and function. Mar Theodosius gave the Parish Day message by speaking about the parish as (i) worshipping community (2) witnessing community and (3) Serving community.

The parish choir sang melodious songs. Mr. Roy Abraham who got IRS, was acknowledged and felicitated at the meeting.

Merit awards were given to the students who secured high marks. First Communicants were given certificates from the diocese. Senior members of the Church, male and female, who have crossed the age of 60 were given, Ponnada. The meeting concluded by 12.30 noon.

After Kaimuthu service, all participated in the fellowship meal. The members of the parish committee took time to meet the Diocesan Episcopa and communicate their concerns. Mar Theodosius gave a patient listening and gave necessary guidance. The parishioners expressed their joy and gratitude when the Diocesan Episcopa returned to New Bombay by train.
