Sherpada is an interior tribal village which is badly affected with scarcity of water. The villagers go almost 4kms to get water. This village is situated in Dharampur Taluka in Valsad District of Gujarat State, India. It comes under Sher Pada Panchayath. It is located 30 km towards East from District headquarters Valsad and 355 km from State capital Gandhinagar.
Sher Pada is surrounded by Kaprada Taluka towards South , Pardi Taluka towards west , Valsad Taluka towards west , Chikhali Taluka towards North Dharampur. Pardi , Valsad , Amli are the nearby Cities to Sher Pada. Geographically, this village lies at the pockets of a steep mountain. Their Language is Gujarati.
As per the survey conducted on 21st May, 2016 by the staff of Pippalpada hostel which is 10 kms away from Sher pada village. The number of houses in the village is 92 and total number of families is 112. The village population is approx. 448. Though there are two tube wells in this village, at present they don’t have water.
The Vision of the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa challenged the Diocese to start a new project “STREAMS OF LIFE”. Mar Theodosius said: “Church should an agent of transformation and life giver to the world, where she is placed. The Church needs to be streams of life to the victims of drought”. Under this project the Mumbai Diocese planned to provide safe drinking water to the people who are affected badly by drought in Maharastra and Gujarat. In connection with this project we have started distributing 2 tankers of water every day. Mr. Mothilal and Mr. Anil, staffs of Mithra Nikethan Girls hostel, Pippalpada are co-ordinating the programme there. Since 25th May we are distributing the water to this people.
Almost 200 ladies including small girls of 8yrs are coming to collect water from distant places by walking miles.
